Oracle
Oracle specializes in software development founded by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner and Ed Oates in 1977. As of 2015, Oracle was the second largest software developer in terms of revenue following Microsoft. In 2017, they recorded $37.73 billion in revenues. Their products include Oracle Applications, Oracle Database, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and servers. The company is also known to develop databases like Enterprise Resource Planning and Customer Relationship Management software.
International Business Machines (IBM)
IBM was created in 1911 making it one of the oldest software developers in the world. The founder was Charles Ranlett Flint. IBM is now a large conglomerate operating in 177 countries with revenues amounting to $79.139 in 2017. IBM deals with hardware and software at the same time hosting. They specialize in consulting for mainframe computers and nanotechnology. Their familiar contribution is Automated Teller Machine (ATM), floppy disk, hard disk drive, barcode, magnetic strip card and SQL programming language.

The SAP is a German software company that specializes in enterprise software. Software enterprise enables them to direct business operations and enhance customer relations. The founders were Dietmar Hopp, Hans- Werner Hector, Hasso Plattner, Klaus Tschira and Claus Wellenreuther in 1972. As of 2016, they amassed €22.062 billion. Symantec
Symantec is famous for its software cyber security solutions. The founder was Gary Hendrix. As of 2017, they amassed revenue worth $4 billion. They are famous for Norton products and Application Performance Management (APM). One of their biggest controversy was with Google. In 2017, Google said that Symantec released certificates without proper verification.
It is important to note that EMC, Hewlett-Packard, VMWare, CA Technologies and salesforce.com are included in the list. These companies are the top players in the software industry. You have to know that some companies on the list like IBM and Hewlett-Packard are not entirely a software company; only a small percentage of their revenue is from software. In the case of some companies like Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP, their software arm generates the most revenues.
